Ford and Google might be setting up a joint venture very soon to build the self driving cars and Google is in a talk with the automaker company Ford to jump into this project. According to Yahoo autos, Mark Fields, CEO of Ford will make an announcement regarding this in the 2016 international CES (Consumer electronics show) that will be happening in the coming January. Many other announcements have been made regarding the testing of the autonomous cars while Fields also added that many more news are being planned for the coming 2016 CES.
Alan Hall, a spokesperson from Google however said that they are not ready to comment on any speculation and this internet search company has started discussing with many reputed companies about the Ford Smart Mobility plan but all these discussion are kept as private for some specific reasons and as of now they will not remark on any speculation.
Google is on a high spirit to start their driverless cars on road in the next five years and it was announced by the director of self driving car project of Google Chris Urmson in January. He also added that more than hundreds people have started working on this project in Detroit and California. According to Urmson, they have met Ford and other automakers like General motors, Volkswagen, Toyots and many other similar companies who are experts in building cars as Google is really interested to put their footstep in the car sharing business and it will really be arrogant to say that we are the best and can do this better way without the help of others. Google has hired John Krafcik, the former Ford and Hyundai Executive in September and appointed him as the CEO of Google’s self driving car project. Alan Mulally, the former Ford CEO is also been hired by Google to appoint him in board of director’s of Google.
Mark Fields from Ford has confirmed that their request is granted required to test the autonomous vehicles in California. Mcity is a city created at the campus of Michigan University that is perceived as the safe place to place the cars through repeated paces and Ford is the first automaker to test the autonomous cars in this Mcity. This is the ultimate place to test driverless cars in every season and condition due to the available ideal settings.
