Google algorithm counts calories

Google is experimenting with an algorithm that can count the quantity of calories within the food on a picture. Kevin Murphy, researcher at Google call’s the technology “deep learning” at a recent conference.

The algorithm that counts is calls im2Calories, and is based on the relative size of the food on the picture. The software recognizes the sort of food and the quantity. Murphy says the algorithm doesn’t have to be perfect, because the actual use of it will make self-learning available. It can be useful when you make pictures of your meals, so you have information about the calories you eat.

Google’s self-learning technology is hot and countless new futuristic initiatives will follow.
