How To Install Kodi On Fire TV

Kodi has, lately, turned out to be the most versatile media center. Developed by XBMC, it is an open source and a free media player software offering the users multiple recreational options such as playing videos, music, games, etc. It is highly customizable and allows plug-ins and add ons to enable the users to stream media from online services providers such as Youtube, Pandora Radio, Crackle, etc. This multi-platform media software was first developed for the first generation X-box console but was later made available for Android, iOS, Linux, Microsoft Windows, etc.

The users have reported that they have enjoyed Kodi’s performance on Amazon Fire TV better than any other platform. It is easier to install Kodi on Amazon Fire TV, booting does not take any amount of time and the best part is that the users does not have to root their Amazon Fire TV to install Kodi.

Here is a step by step walkthrough to install Kodi on your super awesome Amazon Fire TV:

  1. Download the Kodi APK file

Go to Kodi’s official website and download the stable version of the software for Android.

  1. Download the Side loading Tool Kit for your Amazon Fire TV

This side loading kit will make it easy for the user to install Kodi on the Amazon Fire TV. The best side loading kit available online is the adbFire app and the Amazon Fire TV Utility App. The user can download any of the two app and they are almost the same. It is advisable that the user downloads the adbFire app as it is relatively easier to use. Download the side loading app and extract the contents to a folder on your system.

  1. Enabling ADB Debugging

For modification purpose and for side loading Kodi on the Amazon Fire TV, AD debugging should be enabled on the Amazon Fire TV. The user needs to select the ‘Developer Options’ in the Settings option in the Amazon Fire TV and turn on the AD Debugging.

  1. Create a profile for your Amazon Fire TV on the side loading kit.

Before creating the profile, the user needs to know the IP Address of the Amazon Fire TV. TO know the IP Address, the user should go to the Settings Tab of the Kodi and Click ‘About’ tab and select the Network tab and the second entry is the Amazon Fire TV’s IP address. Now create the profile in the side loading kit and provide the description of your Amazon Fire TV and its IP address and save the profile. On some of the side loading kit, the user needs to provide the path for their saving location where all the files from the Fire TV will be stored.

  1. Connect the Fire TV with the side loading app and install the Kodi on the TV

In the side loading app, select your device as the ‘Current device’ in the click Connect on the app. The device will appear in the ‘Connected devices’ box. Now click on the ‘Install APK’, tab on the app and select the downloaded APK file of Kodi. The installation will start shortly and a confirmation message will appear on the screen.

  1. Launch the currently downloaded Kodi on your Fire TV.

There will not be any shortcut option available on the home screen because this is a side loaded app and therefore the user need to go to the Settings > Applications > Manage All Installed Apps. Select Kodi and launch the app. To save yourself from hassles, it is advisable that the user should create a shortcut option on the Amazon Fire TV’s home screen. It is also advisable that before running the Kodi on your Fire TV, the user should reboot the Fire TV.

  1. Keep the Kodi definition upgraded

One of many appreciable aspect of the Kodi is that the definition can be updated without losing the user defined settings. This up gradation is done manually and the user needs to download the update from the web.
