As part of Bungie’s showcase for its upcoming game, Marathon, the studio has announced the start of a closed alpha test, allowing players to sign up for access. This alpha will begin later this month, and interested participants can join the Marathon Discord channel to secure a chance for entry. Bungie plans to engage actively with players on Discord, hosting live Q&As and discussions about the game.
Marathon is a team-based extraction shooter that serves as a spiritual successor to Bungie’s original 1994 game of the same name. While Bungie is now widely recognized for its work on the Destiny and Halo franchises, the original Marathon marked one of their first significant successes on the Mac and Apple Pippin. Following the initial release, the sequels Marathon 2: Durandal and Marathon Infinity were launched in the mid-90s.
In a shift from its earlier projects, Marathon is being developed for multiple platforms, including Xbox Series X|S and PC, in addition to the PS5, with cross-play functionality across all systems. This title will be Bungie’s first major release since they were acquired by Sony in 2022.
Marathon is set to debut on September 23, coinciding with the release of Borderlands 4. For more insights, be sure to check out GameSpot’s hands-on preview of Marathon.
