Capturing the Grit: How Star Wars: Zero Company Seeks to Emulate the Wartime Essence of Rogue One and The Clone Wars

After being officially revealed at Star Wars Celebration Japan, new insights into Star Wars: Zero Company have emerged. Set during the Clone Wars, the game intends to dive deep into the less-explored narratives of this conflict, focusing on covert operations rather than the galactic civil war that has been more prominently featured in previous works. Drawing inspiration from various Star Wars narratives such as the animated Clone Wars series, Rogue One, and the series Andor, along with classic World War II films like The Dirty Dozen, the game aims for a gritty wartime feel.

Greg Foertsch, the creative director at Bit Reactor, explained that the mechanics of the game benefit from the rich storytelling found within the Clone Wars, allowing for a unique approach to gameplay. He noted the potential for fresh narratives within the Clone Wars era, stating, "we haven’t seen that kind of zoom level in the Clone Wars," which opens up possibilities for engaging gameplay and storytelling.

LucasFilm Games producers Orion Kellogg and Kelsey Sharpe echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the opportunity to tell original stories within the expansive timeline of the Clone Wars. They highlighted the narrative depth found in Rogue One and the grounded nature of the characters, alongside the classic themes of hope and camaraderie that are inherently part of the Star Wars saga. Sharpe stated, "there’s always hope…and that’s what Star Wars is," underscoring the enduring appeal of the franchise.

Star Wars: Zero Company is set to be released for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S in 2026. For more details, you can check the official page here.
