Cisco Enhances Nexus 9000 with Support for Intel Gaudi 3 AI Accelerators

Cisco is enhancing its Nexus 9000 Series AI networking switches by introducing compatibility with Intel’s Gaudi 3 AI accelerators. This upgrade offers a broader range of solutions for customers aiming to develop AI clusters, specifically through the support of Intel Gaudi 3 servers within Cisco’s switch lineup.

The Nexus 9364E-SG2 switches and OSFP-800G-DR8 transceivers are now certified to work with the Gaudi 3 accelerators, enabling high-performance configurations for large language model (LLM) training, inference, and other generative AI tasks. Intel’s Gaudi 3 server, equipped with eight Gaudi 3 accelerators, can be interconnected through a non-blocking 800 Gigabit Ethernet network, allowing for significant scalability in handling demanding workloads.

These servers feature 24 x 200 GbE scale-out interfaces through six OSFP ports, designed for connecting multiple servers while maintaining a dedicated network that does not interact with external networks. The Nexus 9364E-SG2 switches can accommodate various interface configurations, making them adaptable to different operational needs.

Cisco’s Nexus Dashboard acts as a centralized management platform for these AI fabrics, offering comprehensive visibility and management capabilities. This integration aims to provide diverse networking and processing choices for hyperscale and enterprise clients keen on establishing AI infrastructure.

Cisco’s approach also includes collaborations with leading technology partners like Nvidia and AMD. These partnerships ensure that Cisco’s AI offerings remain competitive, combining features from various vendors to offer customers more robust and flexible solutions. With the Nexus 9000 and Nexus Dashboard, Cisco focuses on simplifying network management for enterprises, enhancing visibility and reducing operational complexity.
