Cisco Expands AI Infrastructure with Supermicro’s Advanced Liquid-Cooled Servers

Cisco is enhancing its AI infrastructure offerings with the integration of high-density servers from Supermicro, notably incorporating both liquid and air-cooled systems into its Secure AI Factory powered by Nvidia technology. This collaboration is key to expanding Cisco’s AI capabilities and providing more robust server solutions for customers.

The Secure AI Factory combines a variety of products, including Cisco Unified Computing System (UCS) servers equipped with Nvidia GPUs and Blackwell Servers. The architecture also features Cisco networking tools, various security utilities including Cisco AI Defense and Hybrid Mesh Firewall, as well as software for infrastructure monitoring and AI deployment from both Cisco and Nvidia.

With the addition of Supermicro’s systems, Cisco aims to simplify the management of complex AI clusters while accommodating non-AI workloads. The new liquid-cooled solutions are specifically designed to handle high-density environments, permitting the execution of bulky AI tasks that require significant computational power. Moreover, these advancements allow organizations to leverage existing skills and minimize the learning curve associated with proprietary technologies.

This move is particularly significant given the growing demands of modern AI workloads; the latest rack-scale compute systems can push beyond 200 kW, where liquid cooling becomes essential for operational efficiency. Cisco’s plan to roll out these Supermicro solutions as part of its AI factory is set to begin in October.
