ThousandEyes, a division of Cisco, has released its latest internet health report, detailing global network outages for the week of December 29, 2025, to January 4, 2026. During this period, there were 199 recorded network outage events across various sectors, which marks a 14% decrease from the 231 outages reported the previous week. In the United States alone, 71 outages occurred, representing a 29% decrease from the prior week’s 100 outages.
In terms of specific categories, global Internet Service Provider (ISP) outages fell from 136 to 105, while U.S. ISP outages saw a significant drop from 51 to 26. This reflects a week-over-week decline of 49%. Conversely, outages for public cloud networks increased globally from 47 to 59, and in the U.S., they surged from 22 to 37, marking a 68% increase.
This week also saw zero outages reported for collaboration app networks both globally and in the U.S.
There were two notable incidents during this reporting period. The first occurred on January 2, when Hurricane Electric, a network transit provider, experienced an outage that lasted for one hour and one minute, affecting customers and partners globally. Initially detected around 3:05 PM EST, the outage extended across multiple regions, including the U.S., Japan, South Korea, and others. Recovery was noted by 4:10 PM EST.
The second outage happened on December 31, affecting Cogent Communications. This outage lasted for nine minutes, impacting various regions, including the U.S. and parts of Europe. The outage began around 7:50 PM EST and was resolved shortly after 8:00 PM EST.
