Dean Leitersdorf, CEO of the startup Decart, showcases his innovative AI model, Mirage, which can manipulate live video in real time. During a Zoom call, he enters a prompt filled with colorful imagery—"wild west, cosmic, Roman Empire, golden, underwater"—and the AI swiftly adapts his video feed, transforming him into a surreal rendition of Julius Caesar adorned in gold and underwater themes.
With lengthy hair and an artistic flair, Leitersdorf’s own video feed distorts as the AI interprets the incoming prompts, creating unexpected and whimsical alterations. The Mirage model exemplifies the cutting-edge of AI technology, capable of generating video content comparable to real-time livestreaming.
Launching its new website and app, Decart aims to empower users to modify existing videos, including YouTube clips, with various preset themes like “anime” and “cyberpunk.” For instance, a simple Fortnite clip morphs into an underwater scene, showcasing the profound potential of this technology especially in the gaming industry.
In November 2024, Decart demonstrated their gaming technology with the release of Oasis, a game that generated playable environments based on real-time user interactions, akin to a dynamic Minecraft experience.
Achieving real-time video manipulation poses significant computational challenges. To tackle this, Decart developed optimized code that leverages Nvidia’s processing power, enabling Mirage to output 20 frames per second at 768 x 432 resolution with a latency of around 100 milliseconds.
The potential applications for this technology could revolutionize content creation on platforms like TikTok and Instagram. However, its unpredictability raises concerns, particularly as it occasionally alters the appearance of users in unexpected ways.
Leitersdorf believes only a handful of major AI labs, such as OpenAI and Google, possess the capability to develop a model like Mirage. Nevertheless, Decart aims for independence, with ambitious plans to evolve into a "kilo-unicorn," targeting a valuation of one trillion dollars or aims at reaching one trillion users in the next five years.
