Nvidia has announced partnerships with several security firms, including Akamai, Forescout, Palo Alto Networks, Siemens, and Xage Security, to enhance threat detection and response in operational technology (OT) environments and industrial control systems (ICS). These collaborations aim to incorporate AI and accelerated computing into OT cybersecurity, fundamentally shifting how security is integrated within these critical infrastructures.
In a recent blog post, Itay Ozery, Nvidia’s director of product marketing for networking, explained that many OT and ICS systems were initially built for reliability rather than defense against modern cybersecurity threats. The new approach promotes embedding security within infrastructure, utilizing distributed protection enforced at the edge, and coordinated through centralized AI-driven intelligence.
These partnerships are expected to leverage Nvidia’s BlueField data processing units (DPUs), which can handle security workloads and relieve local CPU burdens. This technology facilitates identity-based access control, micro-segmentation, and enforcement of workload policies.
