IBM Enhances AI Edge Capabilities with Upgraded Power Servers and Software

IBM has enhanced its Power server line with the introduction of the new Power S1112 server alongside IBM Power Autonomous Operations, an AI-driven solution that automates monitoring and problem resolution within Power systems. These upgrades aim to facilitate infrastructure rollouts and manage AI components more effectively.

The Power S1112, designed for IBM i, AIX, and Linux, targets distributed and edge locations as IBM’s entry-level offering for Power11 servers. Its AI-ready configuration optimizes tasks such as automation and analytics right where data is generated. The server comes in two configurations: a 10-core rack version and a 4-core option available in both rack and tower formats.

Brandon Pederson, IBM’s senior product manager, emphasized that these products signify a shift towards more intelligent and AI-assisted infrastructure. This new system allows clients using IBM i to manage workloads across different operating systems while improving resource utilization.

On the software side, IBM Power Autonomous Operations incorporates an embedded AI agent that simplifies environmental management and optimization through natural language interactions. This platform continuously monitors the systems, providing actionable insights and recommendations to enhance operational efficiency.

Additionally, IBM introduced the Agentic Engine for IBM i, which supports the integration of AI agents into business processes more easily. This engine helps teams create agents with enhanced capabilities while maintaining security and governance standards.

IBM’s Bob Premium Package for i further assists developers in modernizing applications built on legacy programming languages like RPG and COBOL. These tools streamline code conversion, documentation, and testing processes, ultimately facilitating a more efficient modernization path for enterprises.

The Power S1112 is expected to be generally available on July 24, 2026, while the IBM Power Autonomous Operations will launch on September 23, 2026. The Bob Premium Package was made available on June 24, 2026.
