Martin Lund will head the team in charge of producing the silicon, optics, and hardware for Cisco’s key switching, routing, and wireless products.
In a recent announcement, Cisco disclosed their hiring of industry stalwart Martin Lund to oversee their Common Hardware Group. Lund, who previously held executive roles at corporations like Microsoft and Broadcom, is set to take up the executive vice president role at Cisco and directly report to CEO Chuck Robbins.
The Common Hardware Group at Cisco has the cardinal role of producing the silicon, optics, and hardware platforms for Cisco’s switching, routing, and wireless items. The team also works on ASIC design, system/board design, circuit board layout, hardware automation, validation and testing, signal integrity, and power design, as per Cisco’s statement.
“I am thrilled to be announcing that Martin Lund, a veteran in the industry with decades of experience in driving innovation and business growth in the networking and semiconductor industries, will be joining our ranks at Cisco,” Robbins mentioned in a blog about the changes in the executive team.
Martin, who previously worked as SVP and GM of Broadcom’s network switching division, played a crucial role in the acquisition of Dune Networks back in 2009. He also served as the corporate vice president of Microsoft’s Azure for Operators, committing to the delivery of Azure-based solutions involving public and private 5G, packet core, voice, and AI operations, as mentioned by Robbins.
In addition to his responsibilities at Microsoft, Martin was the CEO of Metaswitch Networks, a company dedicated to cloud-native communication software, which was later acquired by Microsoft. “Martin’s 12-year tenure at Broadcom is notable for his significant contributions to the establishment and growth of the Network Switching brand, catapulting it beyond the $1 billion mark in business revenue. Furthermore, he played key roles in giant corporations like Cadence Design Systems and Intel,” highlighted Robbins.
Before welcoming Lund to the team, Eyal Dagan oversaw the Common Hardware Group. Dagan, the founder and former CEO of Dune Networks, who has also had a stint at Broadcom, has now been promoted to the role of executive vice president for strategic projects, as stated by Robbins. Dagan has spent the previous eight years as the senior vice president of Cisco engineering, according to his LinkedIn profile.
Robbins emphasized that Dagan and his team will focus on critical projects that require deep technical expertise to ensure sustained innovation and leadership strength in the tech industry.
