Device42 has unveiled new features in its IT inventory and asset management solution, allowing IT administrators to utilize generative AI for querying their configuration management database (CMDB) with natural language, thus facilitating quicker responses through a chat-like interface.
The new InsightsAI tool, integrated into the CMDB virtual appliance, aims to enhance the functionality of the Device42 Object Query Language (DOQL). This innovation empowers IT managers to craft intricate queries and generate comprehensive business reports using everyday language. Device42 asserts that this will diminish the need for advanced query-building expertise and enhance the speed of problem resolution.
CMDBs are recognized as essential for IT administrators aiming to uphold a precise inventory of their enterprise environments. Outlined in the Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL), CMDBs consist of information regarding the hardware, software, and infrastructure that support the applications and services delivered by an IT department. Device42 employs agentless discovery alongside automated updates to ensure that client CMDBs remain accurate, a task often challenging to manage manually. With the introduction of InsightsAI, querying the CMDB has also become more straightforward.
“InsightsAI streamlines the cumbersome task of manually constructing CMDB queries and reports while enhancing various IT service management workflows,” states Raj Jalan, CEO and founder of Device42. “The ability to receive swift and direct answers significantly improves incident management, problem management, and change management processes, leading to greater efficiency in IT operations and increased business service availability.”
Cross-functional enterprise IT teams can now produce accurate reports without needing extensive technical knowledge in their specific technology area. The integration of natural language interactions with the CMDB simplifies IT management, allowing organizations to make timely and informed decisions based on data, as noted by Device42.
“InsightsAI addresses the difficulty of retrieving information from the CMDB. Locating the elusive needle in the haystack is made effortless by simply requesting it,” Jalan shares. “For instance, when a specific IP address associated with a device is identified as malfunctioning, the user can inquire about the type of device linked to that IP address, what connections exist, the date of the last update, and other relevant details—all through straightforward conversations with InsightsAI.”
The new capabilities encompass:
Device42’s product operates as a virtual appliance that, once set up, employs agentless discovery to recognize network, application, and infrastructure elements across both on-premises and cloud settings. The enhanced cloud functionalities provide IT managers with a comprehensive view of cloud asset communications, thus illuminating the interconnectivity within a hybrid environment. IT managers can create reports using the Device42 dashboard, and Device42 also integrates seamlessly with other applications aimed at managing IT infrastructures, including ITSM and orchestration tools. Alongside a robust API library, Device42 offers connectors that facilitate integration efforts.
InsightsAI is set to launch on October 1, and since it is integrated into the Device42 platform, existing customers will gain access to it seamlessly.
