Assassin’s Creed Shadows: Unveiling the Series’ Most Comprehensive Accessibility Features to Date

Ubisoft recently announced a range of accessibility features for its upcoming title, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, designed to make the game more inclusive for players with various impairments. These enhancements include audio descriptions for cinematics, a first for the franchise, which UX Director Jonathan Bedard noted could convey the game’s emotional depth more effectively.

Shadows will also feature several other accessibility options, such as:

  • Colorblind Options: Players can modify colors for specific gameplay elements using presets.
  • Screen Narration: Important menu items and HUD elements will be narrated to assist navigation.
  • HUD Customization: The ability to toggle HUD elements, adjust opacity, resize text and icons, and more.
  • Improved Subtitles: Enhanced visual formatting, including speaker directions and emotional cues.
  • Gameplay Simplifications: Options to skip or simplify Quick Time Events, and various difficulty settings for combat and stealth.

In addition to these features, Ubisoft revealed that there will be an expansion available as a pre-order bonus for Assassin’s Creed Shadows, scheduled for release on March 20 for Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC. The expansion will also be available for separate purchase in the future.

The development team hopes that these accessibility features will help more players enjoy the game and reflect a growing awareness of the importance of inclusivity in gaming.
