Step into the Future: Civilization VII VR Brings City-Building to a Virtual Reality Tabletop

2K and Firaxis Games are set to revolutionize the Civilization experience with the announcement of Sid Meier’s Civilization VII VR. This new installment of the strategy franchise will be available for virtual and mixed reality on the Meta Quest 3 and 3S, marking the first of its kind for the series.

During the Civ World Summit livestream, the developers revealed that Civilization VII VR will feature a unique setup where players oversee their game from a commanding perspective above a circular surface referred to as the Command Table. The game will include both single-player and online multiplayer modes, although multiplayer will require that all participants own a Meta Quest 3 or 3S for compatibility.

In this VR experience, players can issue commands to their in-game citizens from a distant viewpoint or zoom in to witness the actions on the board up close. Full VR mode immerses players in a grand museum setting tailored to their chosen leader, while the mixed reality mode converts any flat surface, such as a kitchen table, into a battlefield for strategic gameplay.

Scheduled for release in Spring 2025, players can already wish list Civilization VII VR through the Meta Store. This innovation promises to enhance the tactical experience, attracting both newcomers and seasoned fans of the franchise.
