Honor has introduced the Honor UI Agent, a new AI-driven mobile assistant utilizing Google’s Gemini 2 model to facilitate various tasks directly from the user’s screen. The announcement came during the Mobile World Congress 2025 in Barcelona, where Honor’s new CEO, Jian Li, unveiled an ambitious $10 billion Honor Alpha Plan aimed at enhancing AI capabilities in personal technology.
The standout feature of the UI Agent showcased during the event was its ability to book restaurant reservations using OpenTable. An Honor spokesperson demonstrated this by instructing the AI to make a booking for four, specifying a time and type of cuisine, demonstrating the agent’s contextual understanding of locale-specific dining preferences. This process, however, involves the user watching the agent navigate through the OpenTable application, making it less seamless compared to previous technologies like Google Duplex which interacted with restaurant staff in real time.
While the agent managed to select a restaurant based on the user’s query, it ultimately required human intervention when a credit card was needed to finalize the reservation. The technology’s current functionality appears limited, as it does not cross-reference data from multiple sources but relies solely on the UI information processed on the device itself.
Honor has positioned its UI Agent as a notable development in agentic AI, distinct from competitors by not needing external APIs for executing tasks, thereby reducing operational costs. Instead, it utilizes in-house models for screen context recognition and task management. Honor has collaborated with Qualcomm to ensure that data stays on-device and tailors responses based on user preferences.
At the keynote, Honor also promised seven years of software updates for its flagship devices, including the Magic 7 Pro. This aligns with policies from major competitors like Google and Samsung. In addition to the UI Agent, Honor introduced several other gadgets at MWC 2025, such as the Honor Earbuds Open, Watch 5 Ultra smartwatch, Pad V9 tablet, and MagicBook Pro 14 laptop. While these devices will not reach the U.S. market, they have been released in other regions.
