Nintendo has taken a nostalgic approach for the promotion of its upcoming Switch 2, featuring Ant-Man star Paul Rudd in a new ad. Rudd, who was once a lesser-known actor, first appeared in a commercial for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) back in 1991. This throwback ad encapsulates the idea of going back to connect with the future.
Launched on YouTube, the Switch 2’s commercial titled "Now You’re Playing Together" is a creative homage to Rudd’s original SNES ad that concluded with the tagline, "Now you’re playing with power. Super Power." GameSpot notes that Nintendo has effectively remastered this iconic advertisement.
In the new ad, Rudd is seen wearing the same outfit, sparking a humorous exchange with actor Joe Lo Truglio, who questions Rudd’s boy band-like attire. The commercial focuses on GameChat, the social feature of the Switch 2 that enables voice and video communication.
The group in the ad engages in gameplay of Mario Kart World, a high-profile launch title eagerly awaited by fans. Though highly anticipated, the game has sparked debates about its $80 price tag. It recently had a dedicated Nintendo Direct, revealing details such as how players can unlock costumes through in-game meals.
Preorders for the Switch 2 will commence on April 24 in the U.S., following delays attributed to new tariffs announced by the Trump administration. The console is set to be priced at $450 upon its release on June 5.
