During the Day of the Devs showcase at Summer Game Fest 2025, South African developer Nyamakop, in collaboration with Mooncat Games, unveiled an intriguing new action platformer titled Relooted. This heist-themed game offers a unique twist: players are tasked with returning stolen artifacts to their original cultures, rather than simply stealing for personal gain.
Each heist is structured in three distinct phases. Players will begin by scouting the museum to locate their target artifact. The second phase involves stealthily entering the museum and devising a stealthy escape route while avoiding detection by guards. Finally, players will secure the artifact and make their escape along the pre-planned route.
What sets Relooted apart is its focus on real-world artifacts, which are currently housed in Western museums. Each artifact featured in the game includes a brief history, detailing its cultural significance and the reasons it is revered by its originating culture. For instance, one of the artifacts showcased was the Ngadji Drum, belonging to the Pokomo people. This drum was taken by British colonists in the early 1900s and eventually made its way into a museum. Remarkably, 114 years later, the brother of the Pokomo king was allowed to view the drum for the first time since its theft.
The Day of the Devs presentation also highlighted several other upcoming indie titles, including Big Walk from House House, known for Untitled Goose Game, and mixtape from Beethoven & Dinosaur, as well as Snap And Grab, an ’80s-themed heist game from No Goblin and Annapurna Interactive.
Relooted is set to launch on Xbox Series X|S and PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store, although a specific release window has yet to be announced.
