Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) has introduced significant updates to its private cloud offerings, HPE GreenLake, aimed at enterprises that are reevaluating their VMware strategies and preparing for AI workloads. With these updates, HPE seeks to unify the management of virtual machines, Kubernetes, and AI deployments, all while enhancing storage and recovery capabilities.
As organizations reassess their virtualization platforms—many in light of VMware/Broadcom’s recent licensing changes—HPE is positioning its private cloud as a viable alternative. The new HPE Private Cloud solution promises to streamline infrastructure and operations, aiming to reduce costs and complexity. According to Zeus Kerravala of ZK Research, many customers are eager for options to transition away from VMware due to increasing costs and support issues.
The key features of HPE’s updated platform include:
- Unified management for VMs and Kubernetes on a single platform.
- An improved upgrade path to the enterprise version of HPE Morpheus Software.
- A strong infrastructure foundation based on HPE ProLiant Compute Gen12.
- Integrations with HPE Zerto Software and Veeam for backup, recovery, and migration.
- The capacity for both VMware and HPE Morpheus VM Essentials environments to operate concurrently under the same control plane, facilitating a smoother transition for enterprises that prefer to phase out VMware gradually.
In addition to these advancements, HPE has expanded its storage portfolio to better support AI infrastructure. The HPE Alletra Storage MP X10000 Platform now integrates both file and object storage capabilities and is designed for AI workloads which are increasingly moving closer to their data sources.
The latest updates reflect HPE’s commitment to addressing three core concerns among enterprises: managing costs, being prepared for AI capabilities, and simplifying operations across distributed environments. The complete suite of fourth-generation HPE Private Cloud systems is now available, with many features expected to roll out progressively throughout 2026.
