Historically, the military has experimented with various laser technologies, including those installed on aircraft and ground vehicles, but most achieved limited results. Anticipated to be part of the Army’s formal equipment list, the E-HEL program reflects a shift in military strategy to include and standardize laser weapons as a legitimate operational choice. The upcoming contract with AeroVironment is expected to cover multiple systems that can be deployed on all-terrain vehicles, providing flexibility during missions.
