ThousandEyes, a division of Cisco, recently provided an update on global internet performance and network outages from March 2 to March 8, 2026. During this week, a total of 304 network outage events were recorded, marking a 21% decrease from the previous week’s count of 386 outages. In the U.S. alone, there were 124 outages, which represented a significant 33% drop compared to the 184 outages reported the prior week.

Breakdown of Outages

  • ISP Outages: Globally, ISP outages fell from 219 to 170 (22% decrease), while in the U.S., they dropped from 83 to 67 (19% decrease).
  • Public Cloud Network Outages: These decreased from 80 to 53 globally (34% decrease), and from 63 to 42 in the U.S. (33% decrease).
  • Collaboration App Network Outages: Both globally and in the U.S., outages in collaboration applications fell from one to zero.

Notable Outages

  1. PCCW (March 4): A Hong Kong-based Tier 1 ISP experienced a 48-minute outage affecting regions across multiple continents, including the U.S., Canada, Germany, and Japan. The issue originated from PCCW nodes in Marseille, France, and Los Angeles, California, and spread to Hong Kong as well.

  2. ServiceNow (March 6): This U.S.-based IT services provider faced a one-hour and three-minute outage affecting customers in several countries, including Canada, the U.K., India, and Singapore. The outage was initially centered around nodes in Austin, Texas, and Seattle, Washington, and evolved as different locations experienced issues.

In contrast, the previous week (February 23 to March 1), ThousandEyes reported a total of 386 global outages, up significantly from 239 the week before. ISP and public cloud network outages surged, showcasing a concerning spike in service disruptions at that time.

Conclusion

ThousandEyes continues to monitor and report on the status of network performance, providing vital insights into how ISPs and cloud providers manage outages. The reduction in outages in the most recent report suggests improvements in network reliability, though events like those experienced by PCCW and ServiceNow remind us of the ongoing challenges in ensuring consistent internet service.
