Despite the commercial failure of the Borderlands movie, Hollywood continues to explore video game adaptations. Boosted by the success of Sonic the Hedgehog’s two films, another Sega classic, Eternal Champions, is set to hit the big screen.

Via The Hollywood Reporter, it has been announced that Skydance will produce the live-action version of Eternal Champions. The game, launched by Sega in 1993 for the Genesis system, centers around a diverse group of characters from different eras fighting in a tournament to become the new Eternal Champion. The victor is granted the chance to continue their life and fulfill their destiny, while the others are returned to their times of death.

Jurassic World and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom writer Derek Connolly is set to pen the script for Eternal Champions. Connolly’s portfolio includes works like Safety Not Guaranteed, Kong: Skull Island, Detective Pikachu, and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. He is also involved in upcoming projects such as Wes Ball’s Legend of Zelda movie for Sony, and the G.I. Joe/Transformers crossover movie featuring Chris Hemsworth.

Sonic the Hedgehog producer Toru Nakahara will oversee production for Sega on Eternal Champions, while David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Don Granger will join as producers representing Skydance. As of now, the Eternal Champions film has not been scheduled for release.
