Metro Awakening made a splash during the latest State of Play, with a new trailer showing off the atmospheric stealth VR experience for PSVR2, Meta Quest, and Steam VR launching on November 7. Metro Awakening is the latest entry in the post-apocalyptic franchise that spans games, books, and more. If you’re interested in learning more about the Metro universe ahead of Awakening’s arrival, then consider diving into the books that inspired the game series.
Written by Dmitry Glukhovsky, the series begins with the lengthy Metro 2033. Clocking in at over 450 pages, it gives you a closer look at the life of Artyom and the post-apocalyptic world of Moscow. With what’s left of humanity living underground, Artyom will venture through the tunnels and try to warn the rest of the community about a new threat that threatens to wipe out what’s left of his community.
Metro 2034 continues the story, followed by the concluding part of the trilogy in 2035. These novels offer an in-depth look at the universe featured in the games, providing detailed backgrounds for various characters seen in Awakening. For collectors, there’s a special Metro 2034: Illustrated Edition and a graphic novel available.
Additional Metro-based content includes exclusive audiobooks on Audible. A cost-effective approach is signing up for Audible where you receive a credit applicable towards purchasing any of these audiobooks, with the option to buy more credits at $15 each, a cheaper rate compared to direct purchase pricing above $20.
For fans of Dmitry Glukhovsky, other interesting reads include Crime and Punishment: Read By Robots priced at $19 and Future for $25. The former offers a unique take on the classic by Dostoevsky, while the latter delves into a utopian concept of immortality.
For gaming fans eager to explore the Metro video games series before the release of Awakening, the Metro Redux Bundle is currently available for just $2.39, a significant markdown from its original $30 price. This bundle provides Steam keys for both Metro 2033 Redux and Metro: Last Light Redux, highly recommended for newcomers to the series.
