Square Enix has been gradually reviving the SaGa series over recent years, and the next major release in the RPG franchise, Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven, is set to launch tomorrow, October 24, for PS5, Nintendo Switch, and PC. Preorders for the physical edition are available for $50 on PS5 and Nintendo Switch at major retailers, including Amazon and Best Buy. Depending on your location, you might still be able to get release-day delivery from Amazon if you are a Prime member, or you can order online and collect your copy at your nearest Best Buy store.
For PC gamers, there is also the option to purchase a Steam key for $42.49 at Green Man Gaming using promo code OCT15. If you buy a physical or digital copy for console or PC before tomorrow’s release, you’ll receive several in-game bonuses.
If you buy a physical or digital version for console or PC before the launch tomorrow, you’ll receive two special in-game items:
The Cat’s Amulet and Shiyuan’s Tactical Primer will only give their benefits during the first Imperial Year (1001), but they can be quite useful for beginners or anyone looking to advance more quickly through the initial stages of the game.
Romancing SaGa 2 is a complete remake of the classic Super Famicom game from 1993. An HD version of the original was made available in 2017, but this latest remake transforms the experience with full 3D graphics and revamps the combat system to align with the new “timeline” mechanics seen in more recent entries such as SaGa Emerald Beyond. In addition, there are several enhancements aimed at making the game more welcoming for newcomers, including new difficulty settings.
Fans of the SaGa series can also preorder the upcoming physical version of Romancing SaGa: Minstrel Song Remastered International for PS5 and Nintendo Switch. This exceptional remaster was first launched in 2022 on PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, PC, and mobile devices.
Similar to Romancing SaGa 2, the physical edition of Minstrel Song Remastered will be released solely for PS5 and Nintendo Switch. It is expected to launch early next year, although Square Enix has yet to announce a specific date.
The series originally emerged from a Final Fantasy spin-off titled Final Fantasy Legend, but the SaGa franchise swiftly developed its own distinct identity. Diverging from many other JRPGs from the 90s, the SaGa titles are recognized for their non-linear narratives and intricate character development systems that echo the computer RPGs of that era. In Romancing SaGa 2, players assume the roles of different members of a royal family as they endeavor to preserve their empire while confronting world-threatening challenges. The game also features castle-building elements, allowing players to construct and oversee fortifications within their realm. Like other entries in the series, decisions about where to go, whom to interact with, and which side quests to pursue can significantly alter the progression of the story. This creates a surprisingly open-ended experience, even by today’s standards, making this new remake an excellent opportunity to dive in or revisit the game for an entirely different narrative journey.
Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven is poised to be an excellent introduction to the SaGa franchise, yet there are many other titles from the series available on contemporary platforms. The newest release is SaGa: Emerald Beyond, alongside other noteworthy games such as Romancing SaGa: Minstrel’s Song Remastered and Collection of SaGa: Final Fantasy Legend, making them worthy of exploration for those interested in this beloved JRPG series. PC gamers can enjoy a 15% discount on the Steam versions at Green Man Gaming using the promo code OCT15.
