Assassin’s Creed Shadows is set to introduce significant changes to the series’ parkour mechanics, a staple of the franchise since its inception. Ubisoft has provided insights into these updates, specifically highlighting the capabilities of one of the game’s new protagonists, Naoe. Notably, Naoe can perform a unique "Naruto run," showcasing an innovative take on the traditional running style.
An extensive breakdown of the new parkour system has been released, revealing key adjustments, such as a swap between the crouch and dodge buttons. This change will enable players to crouch or lie prone more effectively, with Naoe even having the ability to eliminate targets from a prone position.
Both Naoe and Yasuke, the game’s other main character, can execute dodges while crouching, though only Naoe can perform a dodge from a prone stance. Additionally, Naoe has access to a wider range of parkour tricks, including a wall-run eject and a backward dodge, making her agile and adaptable during gameplay.
Importantly, not all surfaces in Shadows will be climbable. Players are encouraged to look for specific surfaces with physical handholds or use a grappling hook to navigate difficult areas.
For players preferring a straightforward narrative experience without romance or complex decision-making, Shadows will offer a Canon Mode to automate major story choices. The game will also explore a new direction for its modern-day storyline, and Ubisoft has clarified that rewards in the Animus Hub will be provided free of charge.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows is scheduled for release on February 14, 2025, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
