Fortinet has announced an upgrade to its branch office firewalls with the introduction of the new FortiGate G-series. This series includes three models: the 70G, 50G, and 30G. These enhanced firewalls come equipped with upgraded capabilities such as integrated firewall protection, intrusion prevention, and defenses against malware and ransomware. Alongside traditional security features, these models support SD-WAN and switching functionalities, which can all be monitored and managed through Fortinet’s centralized FortiManager platform.
A significant highlight of the new series is its support for FortiAI, Fortinet’s generative AI assistant. This technology is aimed at automating administrative tasks, generating insights, and enhancing threat detection, which can be especially beneficial during incident response and threat remediation.
The new FortiGate G-series devices operate on Fortinet’s fifth-generation ASIC, the FortiSP5. This chipset significantly increases firewall performance—achieving 17 times faster speeds and delivering 32 times quicker encryption capabilities while consuming 88% less power than standard CPUs. This performance leap allows for more rigorous traffic inspection, ultimately improving threat blocking and security posture.
The new models serve as an expansion or replacement for Fortinet’s earlier branch product line (the 40F/60F/80F series) and are compatible with FortiOS, which utilizes Fortinet Security Fabric, providing a comprehensive protection architecture for enterprise networks.
