In the life simulation game InZoi, cooking is a fundamental activity that players will engage in to sustain their characters and build their virtual families. However, the cooking mechanics in InZoi have their quirks, which set them apart from similar games like The Sims and even real-life cooking.
Initially, players can only prepare meals for a single character, as the majority of recipes are designed for individual servings. If you wish to make a meal that can be shared with your virtual family, you’ll need to ensure you select a recipe that is marked as "big enough to share with others." Unfortunately, new players won’t have access to these larger meals until they increase their cooking skill to level 3. At that point, you can make group dishes like cake and pizza. By leveling up to 5, even more options open up, including fried chicken and steak, though cooking steak will require an outdoor barbecue grill.
The selection of meals may seem odd. For example, steak is included as a communal dish, while a simple dish like tomato pasta is categorized as a solo meal, which contradicts typical dining norms where pasta is often made in larger quantities for sharing.
Once you have prepared a group meal, you must ensure your characters take advantage of the food without wasting it, as they have a tendency to discard leftover portions after eating just one serving. It’s essential to manage this aspect closely; otherwise, all your hard work in cooking could go to waste.
As InZoi is still in Early Access, the cooking feature feels somewhat underdeveloped, unlocking new recipes only up to cooking level 5 despite the potential to reach level 10. As the developers continue to enhance the game, players can expect more cooking options and improved mechanics in the future.
