If you’ve recently observed a light blue circle appearing in your WhatsApp chats, you’re not alone. Meta has launched its Meta AI chatbot in various countries, having initially rolled it out in the US and Canada in 2023. The feature has now expanded to regions including the UK, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, and India.
This AI assistant, integrated across the Meta ecosystem that includes Messenger and Instagram, offers basic capabilities such as answering questions, generating text, and creating content. However, its introduction has sparked privacy concerns and questions about its disablement options.
What Does the Meta AI Button Do?
In WhatsApp, the Meta AI button is positioned above the icon for starting a new chat on Android and in the bottom right corner on iOS. This button allows users to interact directly with the assistant and tag @Meta AI in chats for questions. The AI is powered by Meta’s large open-source language model, Llama 3.2, and currently has limited features, focusing primarily on assisting with text generation and web searches. More functions are anticipated in the future.
It’s important to note that while your private message content is end-to-end encrypted, interactions with Meta AI are not. Meta has cautioned that anything shared with it may be utilized to improve AI models, advising users to refrain from sending sensitive information.
How to Remove Meta AI on WhatsApp
For those uninterested in this new feature, there is no option to disable or remove Meta AI from WhatsApp. Users can choose to ignore it, but the button remains in the app. If you have interacted with Meta AI and wish to reset it, you can do so at both individual chat levels and across all chats.
- To reset a specific chat, type /reset-ai in that chat.
- To reset all interactions with Meta AI across the app, use /reset-all-ais in a chat with the AI.
Managing Your Information with Meta AI
If you’ve engaged with Meta AI, it gathers information from your interactions to enhance its response quality. This could include personal preferences such as favorite foods or pets. To view and manage this information, you can start a chat with Meta AI and navigate to Meta AI > Memory.
From there, you can view all stored information, delete individual memories by tapping and holding, or erase everything at once using the Delete All function. Furthermore, any inaccuracies can be corrected directly during chats with the assistant.
