ThousandEyes provides weekly updates on the performance of internet service providers (ISPs), cloud service providers, and collaboration applications. Their latest report indicates trends in network outages across different sectors, examining data from June 2-8.
During this week, ThousandEyes recorded a total of 304 global network outage events. This marked an 8% decrease from the previous week’s total of 241 outages. In the United States specifically, outages decreased by 9%, down to 77 from 84.
The breakdown of outages reveals notable increases for ISP outages, which jumped from 165 to 233 globally, a significant rise of 41%. In the U.S., this category saw a minor decline from 35 to 32 outages. Cloud provider network outages fell slightly, from 30 to 27 globally, while remaining unchanged in the U.S. at 18. Notably, collaboration app network outages held steady at zero in both global and U.S. contexts for the third week running.

Cogent Communications (June 4): A brief outage affected multiple downstream partners across regions including the U.S., Mexico, and parts of Europe. This outage lasted for 11 minutes, with initial symptoms observed in nodes located in Mexico City and Los Angeles.

Microsoft (June 3): An outage lasting 5 minutes disrupted service for some partners and users reliant on Microsoft networks in the U.S. Beginning around 12:04 PM EDT, this incident initially impacted nodes in New York, then progressed to Newark, and subsequently to Chicago, concluding around 12:25 PM EDT.
From May 26 to June 1, the previous week, 241 global network outage events were reported, reflecting a significant drop of 37% from 383 incidents recorded the week before. The U.S. saw a notably larger fall of 43%, from 147 to 84 outages.

- Arelion (May 29): A major outage persisted for 31 minutes, affecting numerous partners globally, originating in Singapore before impacting the U.S.
- Cloudflare (May 28): Experienced a malfunction lasting 12 minutes affecting users across its network in the U.S.
