Battlefield 2042 introduced the Portal map creation tools, and now, Battlefield 6 is set to expand on that with an enhanced set of creation tools. DICE and EA have unveiled a new video showcasing the upcoming Portal mode, which will allow players to create, share, and play their custom maps with unprecedented flexibility.
The new Portal features a spatial editor powered by Godot, enabling creators to manipulate maps and reposition existing elements with ease. Additionally, creators can utilize custom and AI scripting to design unique user interfaces and manage NPC behaviors within their maps. The experiences crafted in Portal can be shared within the community section for others to enjoy.
Players will also have the ability to modify gameplay rules, such as enabling one-shot kills or restricting weapon types. Notably, player progression and experience points will be active during matches in Portal mode.
Upon launch, Battlefield 6 will feature nine playable maps, including locations such as New York, Egypt, and Gibraltar, all designed with destructible environments. Although players won’t be able to demolish every structure, many buildings can be destroyed, dynamically altering the battlefield as combat unfolds.
The game will include a single-player campaign and revive classic soldier classes—Assault, Medic, Support, and Recon—complete with specialized weapons and gadgets.
Pre-orders for Battlefield 6 are now available, with the open beta kicking off on August 7. The official release is expected on October 10 for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC.
