Digital Foundry Praises Battlefield 6 Beta: What You Need to Know

The ongoing open beta for Battlefield 6 has received positive feedback from Digital Foundry, which conducted a detailed technical analysis during its initial weekend. The game has shown to be "very shippable" and demonstrates a commendable level of polish.

Despite this, there are still some issues, particularly with the destructible environments. Some glitches were noted, such as debris floating disconnected from their structures. The game’s buildings are designed to collapse using a state-based system rather than having unique damage points, marking an improvement over past titles like Battlefield 2049 and Battlefield 5.

On the visual front, the beta performed best on PC when using the SSGI option, enhancing natural lighting. However, there were notable performance disparities; the PlayStation 5 Pro outperformed the standard PS5, with the Xbox Series X handling details more smoothly than the Series S.

While Digital Foundry affirmed that Battlefield 6 possesses a quality mechanical polish suitable for release, they noted a lack of innovative elements compared to earlier games in the series. Players have also expressed concerns about the 12v12 Rush mode being too limited, though there are expectations that larger maps will address this in the final version. Impressively, the beta has already surpassed Call of Duty’s concurrent player records on Steam as well as those of previous Battlefield games. The second weekend of the open beta will conclude on August 17.
