Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, a classic in the stealth-action genre, is set for a modern revival with Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. Originally unveiled during the 2023 PlayStation Showcase, this remake promises to retain the original’s jungle survival gameplay and intricate political narrative, while reimagining the journey of Naked Snake’s transformation into Big Boss.
Release Details
Scheduled for release on August 28, 2025, the game will be available on multiple platforms including PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. There are also rumors of a version being developed for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2.
Development Team
Konami has pledged that this remake will feature "unprecedented new graphics, immersive stealth action gameplay, and sound" that refresh the original title. The development team includes both Konami veterans and Virtuos, a studio known for its work on past entries in the series.
Gameplay Enhancements
While retaining the core mechanics of the original PS2 game, several enhancements will be introduced. Players will have the option to switch between modern controls that resemble contemporary third-person action games or stick to a layout reminiscent of the original release. A quick-select button for changing camouflage will also be added, enhancing gameplay fluidity.
The transition to Unreal Engine 5 allows for significant improvements in animations and overall game quality. Producer Noriaki Okamura noted that the team aimed not just to update the graphics but also to refresh nearly every aspect of the game to ensure it feels satisfying to both new players and returning fans.
Voice Acting
The remake will feature original voice performances, alongside new recordings for specific lines that no longer fit the updated control scheme. This allows players to experience the voice acting in a new, high-quality format that wasn’t possible with the original’s technical limitations.
Name Significance
The term "Delta" in the game’s title represents change while maintaining the original structure and essence of Snake Eater, as explained by the official Metal Gear Twitter account.
Hideo Kojima’s Absence
It’s important to note that Hideo Kojima, the creator of the series, is not involved in this project. Following his departure from Konami after Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, the company has continued the series in new directions without his creative guidance.
This latest installment is anticipated to evoke nostalgia while introducing new gamers to a pivotal moment in gaming history, where players will once again traverse the challenges of survival in a hostile environment infused with political intrigue.
