However, the effectiveness of this AI-driven defense is contingent upon users employing the Drive for desktop application. If ransomware targets files not housed within Drive, Google’s ability to detect and intervene is nonexistent. Moreover, users of macOS and Windows PCs will be served, leaving other operating systems vulnerable.
Similar ransomware detection features are also available on competing cloud platforms like Microsoft’s OneDrive and Dropbox, which underline the shared challenges within the domain of cybersecurity. Despite ongoing efforts to enhance ransomware defenses, the complex and evolving nature of these attacks means that no single solution can fully mitigate the threat.
