Meter Expands NaaS Portfolio with Cutting-Edge Hardware and Autonomous Operations

NaaS startup Meter has unveiled a new lineup of hardware designed to enhance its network-as-a-service (NaaS) portfolio, featuring autonomous operations capabilities. During the MeterUp 2025 conference held in San Francisco on November 18, the company introduced nine hardware platforms aimed at revolutionizing networking solutions.

Meter, which aims to simplify networking amidst a growing demand for AI-powered services, differentiates itself from other NaaS providers by leveraging custom-built hardware, a unique operating system, and a goal of enabling fully autonomous networks. The new suite includes wireless access points, switches, firewalls, and cellular gateways, all of which are managed under a single firmware image.

The newly launched hardware lineup consists of:

  • A-Series Wi-Fi 7 access points: Models A1 and A2 support tri-band configurations across 2.4GHz, 5GHz, and 6GHz frequencies.
  • S-Series multi-gig switches: Three models aimed at various deployment scales are available – including a 24-port PoE++ switch, a 48-port switch, and a 12-port core switch.
  • F-Series firewalls: These provide redundancy and support automatic failover with varied port configurations.
  • G-Series 5G Gateway: This device offers ISP failover and supports cellular connectivity with speeds of up to 1200 Mbps.

A key aspect of Meter’s operational strategy involves its Command AI system, which automates network design and troubleshooting processes. This system uses telemetry data gathered from each device, maintaining uniformity in data structure whether sourced from an access point, switch, or firewall. Currently, Command handles approximately 85% of support tickets using automated insights, easing the burden on network engineers.

Meter is reimagining network configuration by integrating a "desired state networking" concept. This approach enables network configurations to be processed in a cloud-based system rather than on individual hardware devices, streamlining the process of adjustments and updates. New devices pull configurations from the cloud, which allows for expedited setup and changes that can be executed much more quickly than traditional methods.

To strengthen its offerings, Meter has also partnered with Lumen to include WAN circuit provisioning alongside its NaaS solutions. This integration simplifies the ordering of both LAN hardware and WAN circuits through a single interface, enabling customers to benefit from bundled pricing and streamlined installation timelines.

Looking ahead, Meter plans to enhance its platform by scaling up its bandwidth capabilities and further developing autonomous networking features. With a looming shortage of network engineers due to retirements and an increase in network complexity, Meter believes its vertically integrated approach—combining hardware and software with AI automation—will address both challenges effectively.
