NVIDIA and Schneider Electric Reveal AI Data Center Reference Designs

NVIDIA and Schneider Electric have announced their joint venture to advance data center infrastructure as well as instigate revolutionary advancements in digital twin and edge artificial intelligence (AI). The objective of this partnership is to develop new industry benchmarks for AI deployment and operation within data center ecosystems by unveiling a shared AI data center reference design to the public.

Given the extension of artificial intelligence (AI) applications in various sectors and the escalating need for high computing power, the research conducted by both parties could be an essential factor in catering to the growing demands for superior data processing capabilities. Considering the significant increase in AI resource requirements that has led to significant changes and complications in data center architecture and management, this partnership is especially timely.

A statement from NVIDIA and Schneider Electric stresses the urgent need for data center operators to create and supervise facilities that are both scalable and energy-efficient while meeting the explosive demand for energy stability.

Pankaj Sharma, EVP, Secure Power Division & Data Center Business, Schneider Electric, said, “We’re unlocking the future of AI for organizations by integrating our expertise in data center solutions with NVIDIA’s leadership in AI tech. We aim to help organizations surmount data center infrastructure limitations and fully harness the potential of AI. Our partnership with NVIDIA sets the stage for a more efficient, sustainable, and transformative future, powered by AI.”

Schneider Electric is set to introduce cutting-edge data center reference designs as the initial phase of their collaboration. These designs are tailored for NVIDIA accelerated computing clusters which are vital for data processing, engineering simulation, electronic design automation, computer-assisted drug design, and generative artificial intelligence. Particular focus will be on the integration of liquid cooling systems, high-power distribution, and control systems intended to simplify commissioning while providing reliable operations for the extreme-density cluster.

In their joint venture, Schneider Electric aims to supply data center operators and owners with the tools and resources necessary to seamlessly integrate advanced AI technologies into their systems. This will enhance deployment efficiency and ensure reliable life-cycle operation.

The objective of these reference designs is to provide a solid basis for incorporating NVIDIA’s accelerated computing platform in data centers. This is expected to improve performance, scalability, and overall sustainability, addressing the changing requirements of AI workloads.

Engineers, partners, and data center executives can utilize these reference designs when building new data centers that are fully optimized for a liquid-cooled AI cluster. They can also be deployed in existing data center rooms that need to accommodate new high-density AI server deployments.

“Through our collaboration with Schneider Electric, we’re providing AI data center reference designs using next-generation NVIDIA accelerated computing technologies,” said Ian Buck, VP of Hyperscale and HPC at NVIDIA. “This provides organizations with the necessary infrastructure to tap into the potential of AI, driving innovation and digital transformation across industries.”

To provide a uniform environment for virtual simulation and collaboration, Schneider Electric subsidiary AVEVA will link its digital twin platform to NVIDIA Omniverse in addition to the data center reference designs. Through seamless cooperation between engineers, designers, and stakeholders, this integration is aimed at speeding up the design and implementation of complex systems and lowering costs and time-to-market.

“NVIDIA technologies enhance AVEVA’s capabilities in creating a realistic and immersive collaboration experience underpinned by the rich data and capabilities of the AVEVA intelligent digital twin,” said Caspar Herzberg, Chief Executive Officer at AVEVA. “Together, we are creating a fully simulated industrial virtual reality where you can simulate processes, model outcomes, and effect change in reality. This merging of digital intelligence and real-world outcomes has the potential to transform how industries can operate more safely, more efficiently and more sustainably.”
