Coming this autumn, BioWare and EA’s Dragon Age: The Veilguard will unveil the evolved world of Thedas, a decade after the events of Dragon Age: Inquisition. The recent extended gameplay preview suggests that the changes in Thedas may not be for the better, but the game’s narrative seems more polished and engaging.

Through an article from IGN, Veilguard co-directors Corinne Busche and John Epler showcased a 22-minute gameplay video set deep in the storyline. In a featured side quest, the protagonist Rook agrees to aid his friend, Davrin, in a vendetta. During their journey, they also undertake additional tasks to gather medical supplies for the Grey Wardens and to find some of their lost allies, illustrating a more seamless integration of these missions into the main narrative.

Moreover, the Crossroads has been transformed into a battleground due to the conflict involving the antagonist Solas and the deities. Rook, alongside his team, must navigate through this tumult before reaching Hossberg, now consumed by the Blight.

The presence of the Blight has significantly enhanced the strength of the Darkspawn foes in this game preview, even leading to Rook’s temporary demise until he is brought back to life. The directors have chosen to allow greater freedom in the development of companion storylines, highlighted by Davrin’s decision to leave the group and confront his enemy, the Gloom Howler, alone.

Additional information revealed includes the possibility to upgrade faction shops, such as the Grey Warden’s, to offer more appealing rewards. Furthermore, players are encouraged to revisit previous areas post-mission to explore for concealed secrets and valuable items.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard is set for release on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC on October 31.
