If you’ve ever read a book and thought, “This would be a lot cooler if the main characters knew their stats and could see their health points,” then you might want to check out the new print edition of the Dungeon Crawler Carl series, which is getting hardcover editions for the first time.
Written by Matt Dinniman, the popular book series belongs to a subgenre of fiction called “LitRPGs” that integrates video game tropes like stats, health bars, and inventory screens directly into the story. Unlike a choose-your-own-adventure story or a tabletop RPG, LitRPG books are prose novels where the characters interact with the world in a game-like way—often because they are transported into an alternate video game reality or because external forces transform the real world into a game-like setting. In Dungeon Crawler Carl, aliens have transformed Earth into a 10-floor mega-dungeon, and each book in the series represents a different level of the dungeon with its own environmental identity, characters Carl meets, and objectives he completes in hopes of saving humanity.
If you’re interested in the Dungeon Crawler Carl series, you’ll be pleased to know that the first six books are now available in print editions for the first time. Initially released as audiobooks and ebooks, you can now purchase a hardcover copy of the first book on Amazon for just $20, originally $30. The second and third books are also up for pre-order in hardcover format.
Currently, only the first three books are available in hardcover. It is likely that the fourth, fifth, and sixth books will follow soon, along with an impending seventh book that is expected to be released in print as well. If you prefer not to wait for the hardcover versions, the entire series is also available in paperback format on Amazon.
The Dungeon Crawler Carl series gained popularity through its audiobook editions, which are considered by many fans as the best way to experience the adventures. These are available on Audible either individually or with an Audible subscription. The digital ebook versions are accessible too, including all six books in the Kindle format on Amazon. Kindle Unlimited subscribers can access them as part of their subscription, or if you are not a subscriber, you can get three months of Kindle Unlimited for one month’s price, a cost-effective way to dive into the series.
