At an event celebrating Hobbit Day today, Private Division and Weta Workshop revealed that their anticipated Hobbit-themed life simulator, Tales Of The Shire, initially delayed beyond 2024, is now scheduled for release on March 25, 2025.
Tales Of The Shire transports players into the serene environment of The Shire from The Lord Of The Rings, differing from the usual high-stakes combats associated with the series. The game grants players the opportunity to design their Hobbit, settle into a hobbit hole in Bywater, and immerse themselves into the daily life of Hobbit society.
Player activities involve collecting ingredients for breakfast, fishing, gardening, and embellishing their hobbit abode. The village of Bywater is populated with hobbit NPCs who offer quests, exchange rare items, and provide tips to help newcomers integrate into the community.
Tales Of The Shire marks the inaugural release from Weta Workshop’s gaming division, set up in 2014. Known predominantly for their work on film effects seen in movies like Alien: Romulus, Dune Part Two, and The Rings Of Power on Amazon Prime, the company expands into gaming with this venture.
The game’s introduction coincides with Hobbit Day during Tolkien Week, a celebration dedicated to the works of J.R.R. Tolkien, author of The Lord of the Rings. Hobbit Day, celebrated on September 22nd, is recognized by fans as the birthday of Bilbo and Frodo Baggins, two significant characters from Tolkien’s stories.
Tales Of The Shire is set for release on March 25, 2025, and will be available on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Steam, and mobile platforms through Netflix Games.
