F5 and Nvidia Join Forces to Enhance AI and Cloud Security Solutions

F5 and Nvidia are enhancing their collaboration to assist organizations in developing AI infrastructure while strengthening the security of cloud-based applications.

In particular, the two firms will integrate F5’s BIG-IP Next for Kubernetes platform with Nvidia BlueField-3 DPUs to provide clients with a solution that meets the demands of AI networking and security, while effectively managing traffic for cloud-oriented Kubernetes applications.

The BIG-IP Next application delivery platform from F5 incorporates load balancing, application acceleration security, DNS services, and capabilities for API management. It seamlessly integrates with Kubernetes clusters to enhance visibility, control, and the automation of Kubernetes applications. Meanwhile, BlueField-3 DPUs offer superior networking performance relative to conventional CPUs, enabling the offloading of processes such as packet processing, routing, and firewall management from core servers.

Ahmed Guetari, general manager and vice president of products for F5, noted in a blog post discussing the announcement, “The immense data processing requirements of AI place considerable strain on traditional network infrastructure, making it difficult to maintain optimal performance.”

By transferring and expediting high-bandwidth network and security operations—such as packet management, encryption, and compression—BlueField-3 DPUs provide cloud network connectivity. This enhancement improves overall performance and speeds up GPU data access, as noted by Guetari.

The goal is to enable customers to implement scalable, secure AI solutions more swiftly, with improved performance, while ensuring data protection, Guetari mentioned.

F5 BIG-IP Next for Kubernetes, running on Nvidia BlueField-3 DPUs, delivers a secure and compliant AI networking framework, allowing customers to leverage advanced AI functionalities without risking data privacy, explained Ash Bhalgat, senior director of cloud, telco, and cybersecurity market development for networking at Nvidia, in a blog.

“By offloading functions such as load balancing, routing, and security to the BlueField-3 DPU, F5 BIG-IP Next for Kubernetes efficiently directs AI requests to LLM instances and decreases energy consumption. This guarantees scalable AI performance while maximizing GPU resource usage,” Bhalgat commented.

Furthermore, the partnership is designed to assist governments and industries in managing sensitive information while speeding up the deployment of AI applications. The sovereign cloud sector is anticipated to reach $250 billion by 2027, as reported by IDC. At the same time, ABI Research estimates that the market for AI foundational models will be valued at $30 billion within the same timeframe.

Sovereign clouds are specifically constructed to comply with rigorous data privacy and localization standards. They are essential for sectors dealing with sensitive information, such as telecommunications and financial services, as well as for government bodies, as noted by Bhalgat.

This is not the first instance of collaboration between F5 and Nvidia. In 2021, for example, they worked together to merge F5’s technology with the Nvidia Morpheus AI framework, aiming to provide pretrained AI models that assist in identifying and addressing security threats.
