Grab the Asus ROG Ally PC Handheld for Just $400 at Walmart!

The Asus ROG Ally, equipped with the AMD Ryzen Z1 chip, is currently available for $400 at Walmart, representing a $100 discount from its original price of $500. This price cut could signal one of the last opportunities to grab the base model ROG Ally, especially as Best Buy has modified its listings to indicate the Z1 model is no longer in new condition.

Interestingly, while the ROG Ally is typically exclusive to Best Buy, this deal is hosted on Walmart’s site but fulfilled by Antonline. The order remains eligible for Walmart’s extended holiday returns, allowing customers the option to return the device through January 31, making it a convenient purchase for gift-giving.

The base model features a vibrant 1080p display, an AMD Ryzen Z1 processor, 16GB LPDDR5 RAM, and a 512GB NVMe SSD. Users seeking additional storage can utilize a microSD card or upgrade the internal SSD to models like the WD Black SN770M or the more affordable Corsair MP600 Core Mini.

Performance-wise, the ROG Ally delivers impressive results suitable for many AAA titles at 30fps or higher, especially for older games and indie titles. However, using Windows on handheld devices can be tricky without a mouse and keyboard. A docking station can enhance usability if you need more robust desktop capabilities. The device is managed through Asus’s Armoury Crate app, which provides a console-like interface for easier access to your games.

Those interested in further power have the option to purchase the ROG Ally with the Z1 Extreme chip from Best Buy, priced at $650. However, the additional performance may not justify the price difference when the base model is available for $400.

For those seeking a handheld alternative, the Lenovo Legion Go features the Z1 Extreme chip and includes a larger 8.8-inch 1600p display with detachable controllers, currently priced at $550. Meanwhile, the ROG Ally X is set to launch soon with upgraded specifications—including 24GB RAM and a 1TB SSD—though it comes with a heftier price tag of $800. An even more premium version with a 2TB SSD will be released at $900.
