Samsung recently unveiled its Galaxy S25 series at the Galaxy Unpacked event in San Jose, California, emphasizing advanced artificial intelligence (AI) features across its flagship Android smartphones. The new devices continue to enhance user experience, building upon familiar capabilities while integrating cutting-edge large language models to improve functionality.
The series includes the Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25+, and Galaxy S25 Ultra, rebranding features like the S Pen’s "Smart Select" to "AI Select," which highlights the improved intelligence behind tasks. Samsung also teased a thinner model called the Galaxy S25 Edge, aimed at competing with upcoming devices like the rumored iPhone 17 Air.
In terms of design, the Galaxy S25 models maintain a similar aesthetic to their predecessors but sport slimmer bezels and new rounded edges, making the Ultra model slightly larger at 6.9 inches. Samsung uses a new glass technology called Gorilla Armor 2, purportedly offering greater durability compared to past models.
All models are powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, which delivers significant performance gains over the previous generation. The S25 Ultra and S25+ feature ProScaler technology to enhance image quality across different resolutions and a more efficient cooling system to manage heat during intensive use.
Camera capabilities have also seen upgrades; notably, the Ultra’s ultrawide camera now boasts 50 megapixels, enhancing macro photography. Samsung’s new image processing algorithm improves low-light performance through advanced filtering techniques.
The AI aspect of the Galaxy S25 series includes the integration of Google’s Gemini alongside Samsung’s Bixby. Users can activate Gemini with a long press of the power button, allowing it to manage complex tasks that span multiple applications. It can pull information across different apps to meet user requests, like scheduling events or finding recipes based on available ingredients.
Samsung has also introduced "Now Brief," a dedicated app that delivers personalized updates about the day ahead, tapping into calendar events and reminders for an organized experience. The phones will also feature a "Now Bar" on the lock screen, providing quick access to relevant information like sports updates and navigation prompts.
Among new functionalities, Drawing Assist uses generative AI for creative image generation, while Audio Eraser improves video editing by removing background noise. The devices use at least 50% recycled cobalt in their batteries, emphasizing Samsung’s commitment to sustainability.
Pre-orders for the Galaxy S25 series are open, with an official release set for February 7. Samsung also introduced a Galaxy Club upgrade program, enabling customers to upgrade their devices after 12 months at a reduced cost.
