Your Ultimate Guide to the Destiny 2 Barrow Dyad Exotic Quest: Starting and Completing Derealize

Ah, Bungie has surprised Guardians once again with the unexpected launch of the Barrow Dyad Exotic mission, Derealize, coinciding with the weekly reset in Destiny 2. Here’s a guide on how to start this new mission and ultimately acquire the unique Barrow Dyad Exotic SMG.

How to Start the Derealize Exotic Mission

Nether Blights

Players familiar with the ongoing Episode Heresy should recognize the Nether activity. To initiate the Exotic quest, you can begin at any landing zone within the Nether. Players need to locate a large Taken Blight. Use hidden platforms to reach it, jump into the blight, and look for a plate on the floor post-teleportation. If you struggle to find it, deploying your Ghost will reveal the platforms temporarily.

Symbols and Fragments

Once you step on the plate, a symbol will appear on your HUD with a directional message. Follow this cue to be teleported to a spot containing a Taken Osseous Fragment in a stone bowl—collect this fragment.

Scotopic Rune

After collecting the fragment, make your way to the Slab inside Eris’s Flat in the Last City. Here, purchase and activate the Scotopic Rune upgrade—this is a crucial step in the questline that will prompt you to find something hidden by the Hive in Sorrow’s Harbor.

Lost Sector Blights

Your next destination is the K1 Revelation Lost Sector in Sorrow’s Harbor. Like before, locate a Blight leading to a plate; step on it, note the direction indicated by the symbol, and dispatch the Taken enemies that appear. Repeat this in the Forgotten Shore Lost Sector, specifically in the maze known as Veles Labyrinth.

Curse Quests

Upon returning to the Slab after completing the two Lost Sectors, you will trigger three "curse" quests: the Curse of Endurance, Curse of Urgency, and Curse of Revenge. These quests are completed in the Altars of Sorrow, Hallowed Grove, and Nightmare Hunt: Pride, where you will find and dunk a Taken Relic.

Once done with these quests, return to the Nether activity. Similar to the King’s Fall raid, you will find a Hive statue to activate, spawning a mini-boss. Defeating this mini-boss will yield another Taken Osseous Fragment, which is crucial for progressing to the Derealize mission.

Derealize Quest

The Derealize mission is primarily combat-focused. You will encounter Tormentors and other Dread faction enemies as you chase a commander through the mission. In a large arena, you’ll have to repeat earlier steps to empower a curse with a Taken Relic, allowing you to damage a mini-boss. After dispatching the boss, complete a jumping puzzle to find the Corrupted Fragment and tackle the final boss. This quest is packed with lore, so be mindful of the story while you play.

Barrow Dyad Exotic SMG

The Barrow Dyad Exotic SMG features a unique design reminiscent of a disc. It comes equipped with the Panic Response Exotic perk, which generates Blight as you deal damage. When the weapon isn’t firing, the Blight will gradually deplete, allowing the magazine to refill over time. Reloading converts stored Blight into Blighted Seekers that seek out and damage foes.

For players interested in obtaining more of the newly released weapons from Destiny 2: Heresy, additional guides are available that detail these new options.
