MercurySteam, the studio known for its work on Metroid: Samus Returns and Metroid Dread, has announced its new dark fantasy action-RPG titled Blades of Fire, set to release on May 22. The game introduces players to the protagonist, Aran de Lira, who must confront a perilous destiny and combat formidable foes.
In the narrative, Aran is the King’s Ward’s firstborn and faces a dire situation when Queen Nerea, using dark magic, turns all steel in the kingdom to stone. Only the evil creatures under her command possess the divine metal capable of defeating any common weapon. This predicament forces Aran to craft his own weapons, essential for overcoming the wide variety of monsters he will encounter. Players will need to be strategic in selecting the right weapons, as choices will directly impact Aran’s ability to prevail in battles.
The game promises several unknown story elements, allowing players to immerse themselves in the world with only the knowledge that Aran has. However, he is not alone; his companion, Adso, accompanies him, offering advice on defeating enemies and sharing the ancient language of the forger.
Blades of Fire will be available on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC via the Epic Games Store.
