Gear News of the Week: Unveiling Apple’s AI Wearable and a Versatile Phone That Boots Android, Linux, and Windows

Apple is gearing up to revamp its Siri artificial intelligence, with plans to replace the traditional voice assistant interface with a chatbot model similar to OpenAI’s ChatGPT. According to a report from Bloomberg, this new initiative, codenamed Campos, will integrate Google’s Gemini models and is expected to be featured in upcoming updates for iPhone, Mac, and iPad. Further details about Campos are anticipated at Apple’s developer event, WWDC, scheduled for June 2026.

In addition to the revamped Siri, Apple is rumored to be developing an AI-powered wearable device roughly the size of an AirTag. This device is set to include multiple cameras, a speaker, and microphones, and is expected to launch in 2027. However, success will depend significantly on the new Siri experience, which will drive the device’s capabilities.

Meanwhile, OpenAI is collaborating with former Apple designer Jony Ive on its own AI hardware. Other companies, such as Meta and Google, are focusing on smart glasses with integrated AI assistants. Reports also indicate that Apple is working on various AI-enabled products, including smart and augmented reality glasses, and a home hub designed for smart home control.

In the smartphone realm, Nex Computer is set to introduce its NexPhone, a device that intriguingly runs three operating systems: Android, Linux, and Windows. This dual-boot capability allows users to switch between Android and Windows, coupled with a Linux desktop mode when connected to an external monitor. The rugged device is equipped with a Qualcomm QCM64490 chip, 12 GB of RAM, 256 GB of storage, and a high-refresh-rate display. Priced at $549, it is positioned as a secondary device for users who prefer their flagship handsets but need a versatile phone for work.

In another significant development, Sony has entered a strategic partnership with Chinese electronics firm TCL, granting TCL a 51% stake in Sony’s home entertainment division. This partnership aims to innovate in product development and further refine business operations. The establishment of this new venture is expected to be finalized by April 2027.

On a different note, Asus has announced a temporary halt to its smartphone production, redirecting focus towards PCs and AI-driven products like smart glasses and robotics. While current phones will remain supported, no new models are planned for 2026. This move echoes the previous exit from the smartphone market by brands like LG, further narrowing consumer options.
