AMD Unveils RX 9060 XT Graphics Card: 8GB and 16GB VRAM Options Incoming!

AMD has unveiled its latest graphics card, the Radeon RX 9060 XT, during Computex 2025, scheduled for launch on June 5. This new addition is the entry-level model in AMD’s RX 9000 series, which also includes the RX 9070 and 9070 XT. Utilizing the RDNA 4 architecture, the RX 9060 XT supports FSR 4 for resolution upscaling and frame generation along with DisplayPort 2.1a and HDMI 2.1b compatibility.

The RX 9060 XT will come in two configurations: one featuring 8GB of VRAM priced at $300 and another with 16GB priced at $350. Both versions will have 32 computation units, a maximum clock speed of 3.13GHz, and a power draw ranging from 150W to 182W. Although these specifications are appealing for an entry-level GPU, the competitive landscape raises questions about performance and pricing.

AMD will not be releasing reference models but will allow third-party manufacturers such as Asus, Acer, and Gigabyte to create their own iterations starting June 5. Consequently, performance and power consumption may vary significantly across different models, particularly with overclocked versions. However, many of these GPUs may stay true to the established reference specs and pricing, depending on external factors like tariffs.

The RX 9060 XT 16GB model aims to replace the RX 7600 XT as AMD’s flagship entry-level option and will compete against Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 5060 and RTX 5060 Ti, which are priced at $300 and $429 for their 8GB and 16GB versions, respectively. Internal tests by AMD indicate that the RX 9060 XT could be approximately six percent faster than the RTX 5060 Ti at 1440p, and it is notably cheaper. However, this comparison mainly evaluates the 16GB models against Nvidia’s 8GB variant, leaving the performance of the 8GB RX 9060 in question, as it may experience notable performance drops.

Frank Azor, AMD’s Chief Architect of Gaming Solutions, noted on X (formerly Twitter) that most gamers are still primarily using 1080p displays, where 8GB of VRAM is typically sufficient. Despite this, he acknowledged the complexity for consumers stemming from potential misunderstandings around performance comparisons.

As for availability, the RX 9060 XT will launch with several models from various manufacturers, including Asus, Acer, and Gigabyte. While preorders aren’t currently available, more information on their respective models can be found on their official websites. The introduction of RX 9060 XT cards adds an interesting dimension to AMD’s lineup, particularly for gamers looking for budget-friendly options.
